I was just talking with Lauren G online and she was mentioning interest in moving in from the ‘burbs to get more in tune with the action happening down here.
It occurred to us that between her, Rob, and a bunch of other people considering moving down here, we should have some sort of move-to-the-city guide, best places to live, and a roomate/sublet exchange!
I’m just going to toss the idea out there, if anyone wants to put it together and share! You can use the indyhall wiki, start another one which I’m happy to host, or any other ideas! Discuss!

29|Jul|2007 1Great idea, that would be awesome. I almost feel this could be a wiki.

29|Jul|2007 2Before we decide to put it in its own wiki/blog, we should decide if we think we’d want this to be a closed thing or not. Meaning, do we want to try to make a wiki for philly-area creatives in general to find roomies, or just make it a casual thing for just the indyhall community.
Whichever we choose, I say in the meantime make a page on the indyhall wiki. I’m on it, unless someone else wants to help.
Also, regarding the recent spurt of job posts to the indyhall listserv (and regarding recent talk of needing to be more centralized/organized), I think we should eventually make two definitive wikis or wiki pages, one for Jobs and one for Roomates/Housing. Or maybe scratch the wikis eventually and make ’em blogs?

29|Jul|2007 3Good point…I’m interested to hear other peoples thoughts (I’m having difficulty commenting since I’m not in the market for a new roomie).
A job board/blog/wiki will exist in the future…likely as none of those formats. In time, Independents Hall will have an internal management app that will allow people to post their information and assign who it goes to (friends, certain people, certain groups, or public), a-la Chris’s Echonote.*ahem*.
That said…you can post to the community and decide if you want the world to see it. Not just jobs, not just roommate requests, but anything, really.
The IndyHall website will be getting a functional overhaul in coming months, as we flesh out the needs of our new-found space and soon-to-be membership. I expect to be holding pow-wows to gather ideas and feedback, so if you’re interested in being a part of that (development or idea-making), stay tuned.

29|Jul|2007 4Also…while a lot of IndyHall people post here, this blog itself is hardly limited. So some of this discussion is less relevant to some readership…unless we plan to make the roomate-finder feature itself “public”

30|Jul|2007 5Doesn’t this already exist on Craig’s List? Love the ideas but I think we should focus on the things that we have the time to create and cultivate and I worry about us all spreading ourselves too thin!
And, PS – I need a new apt too!

30|Jul|2007 6A brainstorming wiki would be helpful and fit in with the startup/collaboration theme.

06|Aug|2007 7Roomie wiki page is up! I went first.
@Annie–I completely agree about not spreading ourselves too thin! Yes, there is always Craigslist, but why not see if we can connect like-minded people in our little community. It’s true indyhall has a lot on it’s plate right now, which is why I think the wiki’ll do for now. Just a catchall for interested parties.

11|Aug|2007 8@Annie, I agree with you. If you grow too fast, you are just another social network with two seconds of fame on TechCrunch.
